William Shakespeare is heralded in the DuPage Symphony Orchestra's third subscription concert of the 2012-2013 season. Hector Berlioz's moving Le roi lear (King Lear) Overture opens the program with it's balance of beautiful, delicate melodies and brass fanfares. Saxophonist Ashu joins the DSO in performances of Rapsodie pour orchestre et saxophone (Rhapsody for orchestra and saxophone) by Claude Debussy, and Tanti Anni Prima and Libertango by Argentinian tango master Ástor Piazzolla. The program concludes with Dmitri Shostakovich's gripping Hamlet Suite, Op. 116a, drawn from the composer's incidental music to the 1963 film "Hamlet" by Grigori Kozintsev.
Presented by Barbara Schubert and the DuPage Symphony Orchestra at Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville, Illinois. 09 February 2013.
